ALL DAY, your nervous system checks out your environment for signs of danger! Your reactions are based on how regulated your nervous system is.

  • You get stuck in traffic
  • You forgot your lunch at home
  • Your partner doesn’t do the dishes
  • You made a small mistake at work
  • Your kids are extra loud or completely annoying you

How you respond to challenges throughout the day WILL depend on how healthy, happy, and resilient your nervous system is.

We move between three states:
  • Safe
  • Reaction
  • Shutdown

Our number 1 goal in nervous system regulation is how we are able to FLOW BACK TO SAFETY throughout the day.

Depending on our ability to either react well or go straight into reactor / shutdown mode, can make it a hard core struggle to return to safety.

Now we: 
  • have gained 30lb of stress weight
  • are exhausted in the morning
  • feel mentally drained
  • and emotionally fried

When we are stuck in reaction or shutdown mode, the inconveniences or challenges of life will activate our fight or flight mode (yelling, irritability, overwhelming emotion), causing us to feel unsafe with other people and misread situations or react inappropriately.

When we can move back into safety, we can navigate life with calm, playful energy.

  • 2-1 Breathing: Double inhale, one long exhale.
  • Stress Shaking: Just as it sounds. Try shaking your body, starting from your feet and moving up through your limbs. This allows physical movement to release tension and stress from your muscles.
  • Cold Water Face Splash: Splash your face with cold water or hold a cold washcloth to your face, for a few moments. The cold temperature stimulates the body’s relaxation response and helps calm the stress response.
