Let’s talk about GUT health and how it relates to nasty toxicity in our environment

Numerous studies conducted over the past 10+ years have verified that environmental toxicity creates harmful alterations in our gut microbiome (friendly gut bacteria). This is especially true for those who have a poor diet.

Environmental toxins include: Parabans (found in cosmetics and cleaning agents), Pesticides (found in food & water), Phathalates (found in plastics, cleaning agents, cosmetics, perfume), BPA/BPS/BFP (found in plastic), Phytoestrogens (found in GMO-soy products), Flame Retardants (found in clothing and furniture), and PFC’s (found in Teflon / non-stick pans). These chemicals may be found in our food, personal care products, polluted air, contaminated water, and the list goes on-and-on.

Effects of Environmental Toxins on Gut Health
These toxins are associated with several immune and metabolic diseases, including: Crohn’s disease, colon cancer, diabetes, obesity, IBS, and even liver cancer. Why? Because as the kidneys and liver attempt to breakdown and remove these toxins, they often can’t, so they become VERY overwhelmed (the body has a hard time recognizing and therefore removing man-made contamination). This often leads to toxins becoming trapped in the body, in places like our joints (arthritis), muscles (tension/fibromyalgia), adipose tissue (weight gain), and then in our gallbladder (causing slow bile flow which hinders our digestive process). This is especially common in patients with type 0 blood! Like how many of us know someone who has “needed” to have their gallbladder removed, a hip or joint replacement, or deal with chronic pain on the daily? It’s very common! Environmental toxins also create an environment where microbes such as bacteria and parasites can thrive! These chemicals are perfect nourishment for these invaders, and they rob our body of energy (fatigue).

It’s nearly impossible to avoid all traces of environmental toxicity.

What we can do is take an inventory of what we bring into our home.

I ALWAYS recommend to new patients to slowly begin switching out these sources for more natural options 🪴

This is also why I began creating my handcrafted product line way back in 2011.

  • grow a garden using heirloom seeds
  • eat organic as often as possible
  • buy natural meats and fish
  • use natural personal care products – such as make-up, lotions, deodorants, sunscreen, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.
  • drink filtered mineral-rich water (no tap water)
  • cook in stainless steel, ceramic, copper or cast-iron
  • use natural cleaning products (or make your own)
  • stop wearing perfume
  • store food and water in glass (keep it out of plastic)
  • buy natural candles
  • use an air-purifier in your home

That’s definitely a good start! 👏

Always remember that we have a CHOICE to limit our exposure to these harmful chemicals, and can opt for less toxic options. Doing this will also help to balance your hormones. If you’re feeling totally overwhelmed and not sure where the heck to start, I TOTALLY understand.
